Mit weiteren Siegen in der WM Qualifikation 2018 könnte sich Deutschland noch auf Platz 2 begeben, falls die Belgier Punkte liegen lassen sollten. Der erste Platz Argentiniens scheint aktuell für alle Verfolger außer Reichweite. Österreich liegt aktuell nur auf Rang 26 der FIFA Weltrangliste, das ÖFB Team ist um 4 Plätze gefallen. Bosnien-Herzegowina hat von 29 auf 23 einen großen Sprung gemacht, wobei die Top 20 zum Greifen nahe sind.
Am 6. Oktober geht die Qualifikation für die Weltmeisterschaft in Russland in die zweite Runde. Danach folgt ein paar Tage später der dritte Spieltag. Im November 2016 findet dann der letzte Spieltag des Jahres statt. Danach geht es erst im März wieder weiter.
